History
Handy & Schiller Barreled Old Fashioned Cocktail is a unique spirit crafted using Sazerac Rye Whiskey, Vermouth, and Peychaud's Bitters. It is the perfect marriage of a balanced, flavorful Manhattan cocktail and the spicy vanilla oak of Sazerac Rye barrels. Produced by John Schiller and Thomas Handy, Schiller was a bartender in New York who made his way to New Orleans by 1860, where he operated the world-famous Sazerac Coffeehouse in the French Quarter. Handy, originally from Maryland, worked for Schiller at the coffeehouse before establishing a successful importing and wholesale liquor business. Their contributions during the early days of New Orleans' cocktail scene laid the groundwork for over 150 years of innovative libations in one of America's most vibrant cities, influencing countless cocktail recipes and bar practices that continue to thrive today.
